Forget the predictable, reliable chain hotels that all look alike. Sure, there are times when the familiar is comforting, but sometimes you just have to take risks and live a little. When searching for a getaway venue to share time with that someone special, consider these one-of-a-kind properties in Chattanooga, Tennessee. What? Chattanooga didn't make your short list for romantic getaways? Think again my friend. One of these hotels might just be the surprise that puts a little sparkle into your dull and boring relationship.

The Dwell Hotel

The Dwell Hotel is really swell. You might forget you are in Chattanooga and start to believe you are in Hollywood, California, circa 1950s. Renovated in 2016, this 16 room mid-century modern property offers comfortable, kitschy romantic suites in a 1909 historic building. They've kept the best of the building, like the hardwood floors and exposed brick, and added modern plumbing features like large showers and sunken tubs. Whether you remember the 1950s and 1960s or just heard your parents talk about the era, you will appreciate the bright décor and glam of the time. Each suite is unique, so choose the ambiance that suits your mood. Sixteen different rooms mean sixteen reasons to go back again and again.

If you really feel the need to leave the room, don't go any further than Terra Mae, the hotel restaurant offering five-star fare in a romantic Hollywood setting. Limited only by the chef's imagination, available fresh ingredients, and a sense of adventure, dinner at Terra Mae will most definitely contribute to the spontaneity of this romantic experience. A nightcap at Matilda Midnight, the hotel bar provides an intimate setting to end the evening.

The Bluff View Inn

Located in the Bluff View Art District on the edge of downtown Chattanooga, this property offers mountain and river views. The rooms are in three turn of the century homes overlooking the Tennessee River. Each suite is uniquely decorated in warm and charming antiques. If you want to just be with the one you love, and love the one you're with, the Bluff View Inn is an excellent option.

Wake up and take a sunrise stroll through the River Gallery sculpture garden before meandering over to Rembrandt's Café for coffee and a pastry. Two restaurants on the property mean variety is available right outside your door. Tony's Pasta Shop and Trattoria offers a cozy environment inside, and heated patio seating outside, with relaxing romantic river views. The Back Inn Café sets the scene with stunning views of the Tennessee River and a globally inspired menu including herbs from the local herb garden, fresh bread baked daily on the property, the spectacular products created in the local pastry and chocolate kitchens, locally roasted coffee, and much, much more. They have thought of everything, so you don't have to think about anything, except each other.

The Read House Hotel

If history and mystery are what turn you on, consider a haunted hotel. Actually, only room 311 is known to be haunted, by a brokenhearted hussy. If you want the complete story, take the Chattanooga Ghost Tour. The Read House opened in 1872, and was rebuilt in 1926.

In 1976, it was named to the National Register of Historic Places. Winston Churchill, Gary Cooper, Oprah Winfrey and Al Capone have all stayed here. If you like sleeping where famous people have slept, this is the place for you. A huge renovation is scheduled for 2017. A formal setting in a traditional southern downtown hotel is the ambiance you will get at this stately property. An indoor heated pool and Porter's Steakhouse are two of the amenities that make the Read House fun. Pack your swimsuit for a dip with your sweetie before getting all dolled up for a big steak dinner.

The Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel

Made famous by the Glenn Miller Orchestra's performance of the song, the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel is located at the old Terminal train station. The property was saved from the wrecking ball in 1973 and put on the National Historic Register in 1974.

A 2014 renovation made this a modern hotel with historic charm and character. Traditional rooms are available in the Macarthur building, but what makes this hotel so special is the ability to rent a Pullman train car for the night. Several entertainment and dining venues are right on the property. Seasonal activities are always changing, making this place a great tradition for anniversaries or birthdays. The creative event staff will always be thinking of new ideas to entice visitors to return. Engineers, history buffs and music lovers will all appreciate this adventurous experience.
