Visit a Local Farm for Fresh Produce, Meats, and Flowers
By Chloe Morrison
Some of Chattanooga’s favorite local restaurants get supplies from area farms, and many locals hit up local farmers markets to eat fresh. Check out this list of three farms within 45 minutes of Chattanooga and how you can connect with them.
Flying Turtle Farm
The farm produces meats, veggies, and flowers for their Lupi’s locations downtown, Hixson, East Brainerd, Ooltewah, and Cleveland. Shober also credits other local farms for helping keep Lupi’s local - Sequatchie Cove Farm, Signal Mountain Farm, and Circle S Farm.
Now go and enjoy the fruits of the farm’s labor with a delicious Lupi’s pizza and salad.
Sequatchie Cove Farm
Four generations — ranging from age 2 to 92 — live and work on this nearby farm, which has been in operation for 20 years.
The farm’s 300 acres has produce, seasonal fruits, and native plants. The produce is grown from nutrient-dense manure composts and the native plants are grown from the seed, the way it happens in nature.
Visitors can get Sequatchie Cove Farm eggs at various locations around town, including Signal Mountain’s Pruett’s. Other products are available weekly at the Main Street Market, and the farm is open on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m.- Noon CST.
Since 1998, this sustainable urban farm has been offering seasonable plant and produce sales, tours and workshops for the community. The farm produces veggies for local restaurants, including Bleu Fox Cheese Shop, Flying Squirrel, Lupi’s Pizza and Main Street Meats.
It also serves local residents and visitors during U-pick days, when visitors can come to the farm to pick strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, tomatoes, flowers, and pumpkins. Workshops, farm tours and field trips and volunteer opportunities are also available.
