There’s nothing quite like the magic of golden hour, when the light softens, the colors glow, and the views are nothing short of breathtaking. With river gorges, sandstone cliffs, and endless skies that burst into color morning and night, Chattanooga is a dream for sunrise and sunset seekers. Here are some of the best spots to watch the Scenic City's skies come alive.

Sunset Rock (Lookout Mountain)

Sunset Rock is the spot in Chattanooga for amazing sunsets. Often described as “unreal” and “one of the best views in the Southeast,” it sits above the Tennessee River with the valley below glowing in shades of orange, pink, and gold.

  • Photo Tip: Use a wide-angle lens or panoramic mode on your phone to capture the valley and cliff edge.
  • Nearby Food: Head to 1885 Grill in St. Elmo for some shrimp and grits or enjoy wood-fired pizza at Massey's Kitchen.
  • Parking: Small lot on West Brow Road or use Point Park’s lot and hike the Bluff Trail.

Snooper’s Rock (Prentice Cooper State Forest)

If you're after an unforgettable sunrise, Snooper’s Rock is the place to go. On crisp mornings, the Tennessee River Gorge fills with mist, and it feels like you're standing above the clouds. It’s one of the most breathtaking views in all of Tennessee!

  • Photo Tip: Bring a tripod to capture long exposures as the light changes.
  • Nearby Food: Stop at The Daily Ration for their killer sweet potato hash, or treat yourself to a pastry at Niedlov’s.
  • Parking: A small parking lot is available at the trailhead, with a larger parking area further down the road. Arrive early, especially on weekends.

Signal Point (Signal Mountain)

Part of the Cumberland Trail, Signal Point looks out over the Tennessee River Gorge with steep drop-offs, forested cliffs, and incredible views. It’s also less crowded than other overlooks, so it’s great for a quiet escape.

  • Photo Tip: Head just beyond the main overlook for more sky in your frame.
  • Nearby Food: Enjoy craft cocktails and modern eats at Civil Provisions, or keep it casual with comfort food and local charm at Old Man Rivers Table & Tavern.
  • Parking: Free, right at the trailhead.

Stringer’s Ridge (Northshore)

Few places show off Chattanooga’s skyline like Stringer’s Ridge. The sun rises right behind the Walnut Street Bridge.

  • Photo tip: Use the Cherokee Trail overlook for the best skyline framing.
  • Nearby food: Head to Milk & Honey for one of the best brunch menus in town, or grab a latte at Mean Mug Coffeehouse (Northshore location) just down the hill.
  • Parking: There’s a free parking lot off Spears Avenue.

Ross’s Landing + Downtown Riverwalk

At Ross’s Landing, the sun sets over the Tennessee River while lights from boats and bridges twinkle as the sky changes color.
