Some days you wake up ready to conquer a mountain. Other days, maybe you’re only up for conquering a cup of coffee. We get it. And whatever mood you’re in today, this city meets you where you are. Whether you're hunting for solo travel ideas or date ideas that Chattanooga locals actually recommend, this guide has it all— adrenaline, romance, and plenty of ways to take it easy.

When You’re Feeling Adventurous

If today is a go-big-or-go-home kind of day, head to Ruby Falls. You can wander through the cave and see the waterfall up close, or book one of the Lantern Tours, where you explore after hours with only, you guessed it, a lantern in hand. If you want to take the excitement up a notch, High Point ZIP Adventure lets you glide through the treetops and conquer a 40-foot climbing tower.

If you want to go even bigger, drive out to Lookout Mountain Flight Park and try hang gliding. It sounds intense, but you fly tandem with an instructor, so it’s not quite as terrifying as you might think, and it is something you will absolutely remember forever.

If the weather isn’t great or you’re feeling particularly indoorsy, book an experience at Escape Experience Chattanooga. Test out your detective skills! And you can never go wrong at High Point Climbing and Fitness. You can join one of their friendly competitions or head straight for the outdoor climbing wall that overlooks the city. It’s easily one of the most unique Chattanooga activities out there and a great story to take home.

When You’re Feeling Romantic

Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary or just wanting to score some extra points, a sunset cruise on the Southern Belle Riverboat is a great move. Book one of their dinner cruises, and you’ll enjoy gourmet food, great wine, and scenic views of the city.

If food is your love language, the Boathouse Rotisserie and Raw Bar has riverfront seating, fresh oysters, and an apple pecan bread pudding that’s worth the visit alone. You’ll also find lots of other fine dining options like the Zaya 1943 Korean Steakhouse in NorthshoreCalliope, and Hennen’s downtown.

What’s dinner without a little music? Catch a show at Songbirds before calling it a night. It’s intimate, the acoustics are great, and it gives you a chance to just sit close and enjoy the moment.

For something extra special, plan a romantic getaway. Whether you’re looking for a cozy bed and breakfast or a luxurious suite downtown, Chattanooga’s romantic getaway itinerary makes planning super easy.

When You’re Feeling Chill

Sometimes having no agenda is the best agenda. Just walking through the Bluff View Art District and grabbing a coffee at Rembrandt’s Coffee House might be the most exciting thing you’re up for, and that is more than okay.

The Hunter Museum of American Art is close by. You can walk through the galleries or step out to the overlook behind the museum for one of the prettiest views in town.

If you want to continue to spend time outside, the Tennessee Riverpark is the perfect place to spend a few hours. You can fish, boat, bike, or just walk along the water. Coolidge Park is another great choice. You can have a picnic, watch the river, or even ride the restored carousel.

And if you’re in the mood to browse, stop by one of many bookstores like Winder Binder, the Reading Room (this one also doubles as a bar), and The Book and Cover, or check out the vintage shops along Main Street.
