For the first time ever, the IBMA World of Bluegrass is pickin’ its way to the Scenic City this September 16–20, and you won’t want to miss a beat of their Tennessee homecoming. IBMA World of Bluegrass brings a full week of excitement to Chattanooga—including industry events, intimate live shows, and a weekend packed with Bluegrass Live! performances that’ll have the whole city humming.

With two days of toe-tappin' tunes, soul-stirring harmonies, and some of the best talent around, downtown will be buzzin’ with music all week long.

With so many talented musicians in Chattanooga for the IBMA World of Bluegrass, it only makes sense to take the music beyond the conference. That’s where the Bluegrass Rambles come in. These intimate concerts pop up at music venues all across downtown, many within easy walking distance of one another. It’s the perfect chance to catch multiple shows in a single evening while soaking up the incredible talent that makes IBMA such a can’t-miss event.

Appalachian-Inspired Fun at the Creative Discovery Museum

If you’re bringing the whole family to Chattanooga for the IBMA World of Bluegrass, make sure to stop by the Creative Discovery Museum for a week full of Appalachian-inspired activities. Throughout the festival, you can enjoy family concerts with Jennifer Daniels (Sept. 20 at 1 & 2 p.m.), weaving demos with artist-in-residence James McKissic (Sept. 14 & 21), and a traditional chairmaking demo with James Stockman (Sept. 19). Foodies can join a cornbread kitchen lesson on Sept. 19, and everyone can dance it out at the Bluegrass Dance Party happening all week long.

In addition to the special programming, the museum offers hands-on activities like sewing, stamping, instrument-building, and Mad Libs—perfect for little ones and grown-ups who want to connect with Appalachian traditions in a playful, interactive way. While you’re there, head upstairs to ArtSpace to explore the Appalachian Arts exhibit and get inspired by the region’s creativity.
